Reverse Osmosis provides the purest filtration for drinking water available, it is the same process as is used in many desalination plants.
Reverse Osmosis works by passing water through a microscopic membrane, water particles which are contaminated (ie other than just H2O) are too large to pass through and are rejected, so only pure water is permitted. All contaminated water is discarded to the drain.
As quite a high proportion of the water is contaminated to some extent, all domestic R.O. systems have a number of "pre-filters" (usually 2 or 3 depending on model) to remove as much contamination as possible and therefore reduce the amount of water to be rejected. Most R.O systems also have a "post" or "polishing" filter to give the water back it’s sparkle.
R.O systems produce pure water at quite a slow rate and therefore have a holding tank to contain sufficient purified water for most domestic requirements. Depending on your water pressure R.O systems are available with or without a pump.
Professional installation required, connection is made via ¼″ input & output fittings. A suitable drain point is required, as is a 13amp power socket for pumped versions.
